Bursary Scheme final call

The Alia Dann Swift Bursary Scheme is available for a small number of young professionals and start-up companies and is intended to provide a route for those who would otherwise not be able to attend, to participate in ILMC for the first time. 

The closing date for applications is 29 January 2018, so if you know anyone who would benefit, and who should be at ILMC, please encourage them to submit an application before Monday. A bursary scheme place is a full ILMC delegate pass. Details of all successful applicants will remain strictly confidential.

The Final Countdown Dinner

The headline event of ILMC (well, the final one at least...) is The Final Countdown Dinner on Friday 9 March. As a launch pad to the weekend, the dinner will see delegates head to Dirty Bones in Kensington, the upmarket US-style diner rated four-stars by Time Out for its “fun-loving atmosphere” and “pimped dude food.”

With a three-course menu ranging from flat-iron steak and slow ‘n’ low ribs, to mac and cheese, and other unidentified frying objects, it promises to be a last supper cooked to perfection.

Tickets for the dinner cost £60 in advance, and include a welcome drink, coffee, and some other top-secret elements.

ILMC 30 agenda announced

Hold onto your ray-guns, because the ILMC 30 agenda is now live! It’s a monster of a line-up this year, with topics including artist fees, security, ticketing, ethics, blockchain, gender, virtual reality, plus a galaxy of agency, venue and festival topics, and more...

WEDNESDAY 7 MARCH

While details of ILMC’s main opening session, The Open Forum, will be released shortly,Ticketing: Paying the price sees pricing, pre-sales and secondary go under the microscope, and The Music Business: United we stand? – co-presented with CMU Insights – invites five industry figureheads to discuss what shape the joined-up wider music business will take.
 
This year’s Booking Workshop looks at riders and asks whether they’re worth the paper they’re written on, while Gender: Calm down, what’s the fuss? questions whether the live industry has a problem with gender and equality.
 
Wednesday sees the Festival Summit 2018, which includes Festival Forum: Overjoyed or overblown? where we consider whether these powerhouse events hold too much influence, whilst Festival Summit: Artist fees asks whether it’s time to adopt a more long-term approach.

THURSDAY 8 MARCH

Thursday’s topics include Security: Rock and a hard place in which we look at what’s next for a business still reeling from multiple serious incidents over the last two years, whileBusiness Ethics: Why do we alien-ate each other? lifts the lid on murky business practices in order to ask whether there’s a better way of working for all.
 
Tales From the Front Line pt. II invites another panel of special guests to reveal their best, worst and funniest moments working in the industry, while Country Music: New worlds profiles this growing international scene. This year’s Think Tank session invites industry favourites Barry Dickins, Pino Sagliocco & Jackie Lombard to discuss their routes to the top of the business in an intimate format, while the Blockchain & cryptocurrencies Workshop deciphers these disruptive new technologies.
 
Thursday also sees the Venue Summit 2018 take place. Sessions include The Venue's Venue: Spaces for stars, with first-look venue data, innovation and consumer expectations under discussion; Venue Summit: Esports, which profiles this new $1.5billion market and its ability to fill arenas with thousands of new ticket buyers; and a dedicated workshop onSponsorship & Branding packed with the best-in-class brand engagements of 2017.

FRIDAY 9 MARCH
 
The final day of ILMC is one not to miss as The Breakfast Meeting with Peter Menschsees the renowned music manager and industry veteran reveal all to host Ed Bicknell, after which The Agency Business 2018 considers the evolution of agency roles, corporatisation and emerging US dominance.
 
Live Entertainment: The disruptors looks at new formats, new audiences and new opportunities to ask what the key trends are and who’s making waves, before The ILMC 30 Autopsy feedback session wraps it all up.

Peter Mensch confirmed for ILMC 30

ILMC 30’s Breakfast Meeting will be a session to remember, as taking the hot seat opposite host and raconteur extraordinaire Ed Bicknell, will be none other than legendary artist manager Peter Mensch.  

With four decades of experience managing many of the most successful guitar bands in history, the Q Prime co-founder has masterminded hundreds of millions of album sales, and some of the world's most successful tours.  

Q Prime’s current roster includes Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Muse, Snow Patrol, Foals, Silversun Pickups, Cage the Elephant, and The Black Keys. Whilst previous clients include Scorpions, Def Leppard, Queensrÿche, The Smashing Pumpkins and Hole.  

Peter will discuss his career in management – which began in earnest when he signed AC/DC at the age of just 26 – as well as today’s industry, and where it’s all going next. No doubt there will also be a few of the touring tales for which Ed’s sessions are renowned. There’s no better way to kick off the Friday of ILMC.

Gender: Calm down, what’s all the fuss?

When it comes to discussing gender and equality in the live music industry, there are a vocal few while the majority fall silent. Meanwhile, as accusations abound in a post-Weinstein world, the culture of film and music are both falling under the spotlight. Natasha Bent invites senior industry figures, alongside Dame Helena Morrissey, renowned investment banking head and mother of nine, to discuss whether live music has a gender and inclusivity problem.


 
The Venue’s Venue: Spaces for stars

The Venue’s Venue kicks off the Venues Summit 2018 with a first look at exclusive analysis of 2017 arena data from the EAA, NAA and IQ’sEuropean Arena Yearbook. Beyond the numbers, topics include maintaining standards in the face of falling revenues, and the change in the concertgoer experience from ‘being there’ to ‘being more.’ The impending European-wide GDPR legislation is also discussed and the new landscape for digital fan engagement that it brings.

For all the talk about artists and managers holding the reigns, who really calls the shots in the live music business? It’s often a one-horse race in each town for somewhere to play, but with ticket inventory – and the customer relationship – retained by the same buildings that are dictating show times, merch rates, and other charges, is the relationship between venues and the rest of the business shifting? From exclusivity deals to marketing and fees, a cross-industry panel considers who’s really in charge.
