Chris is an editor, journalist and media entrepreneur.
He is co-Founder, MD and Business Editor of CMU, a service provider to the music industry. Best known for its media – the CMU Daily, CMU Digest, CMU Trends and Setlist podcast – the CMU business also provides training and consultancy to music companies and runs the CMU:DIY education programme for new talent. It also presents insight sessions at music conferences around the world and its own conference as part of The Great Escape showcase festival in Brighton each May.
CMU is part of Chris’s company 3CM UnLimited, which also has media, consultancy and education divisions. Through UnLimited Media he also publishes cultural recommendations service ThisWeek London and its sister magazine ThreeWeeks Edinburgh at the Edinburgh Festival. And via UnLimited Learning he helps run award winning PR training charity the Taylor Bennett Foundation, which is enabling more ethnic diversity in the communications industry.
Earlier in his career, Chris worked on a number of research and consulting projects looking at best practice in corporate communications and reputation management. He later led the design and content elements of youth marketing programmes for the likes of Orange, Motorola, Sony PlayStation and Tiger Beer, and managed the content delivery of major music partnerships between leading artists and media brands like the Mail On Sunday and Evening Standard. He also produced theatre at the Edinburgh Fringe and for the West End-based London New Play Festival.
With degrees in English and Law, Chris regularly writes about, discusses and comments on the music business, intellectual property matters, and the media and communication sectors. He authored the ‘Dissecting The Digital Dollar’ reports for the UK’s Music Managers Forum; regularly guest lectures at BIMM, NFTS and Notting Hill Academy Of Music; and has a spoken word show called ‘Chris Cooke’s Free Speech’.
